RAYMOND ARTHUR SCHROEDER June 29, 1951 - November 8, 2002 Suddenly, but peacefully, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, Ray left us on November 8, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Aileen, his mother Nora, brother Murray (Brenda), nephew Michael, and niece Nicole, sister Brenda (Allan) Beaton, niece Chelsea, and nephew Nicholas, sister Debbie (Kelly) McDonald, and nieces, Caitlan and Megan. He will be lovingly remembered by a large circle of extended family and friends, and by his beloved Springer Spaniel buddy Herman. He was predeceased by his father Art, by a sister in infancy, and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Jessie Gunn. Born in Rosenfeld, MB on Jun 29, 1951, Ray spent his life in Steinbach. After numerous building construction jobs, he became shop foreman at Randolph Cabinets, where he developed his lifelong love of carpentry and meticulous woodworking. For 15 years he worked for the Town of Steinbach in the Department of Parks and Recreation, where he is fondly remembered by numerous hockey parents and pool staff. At the time of his illness, Ray was doing independent carpentry and renovation work. Ray loved fishing, golf, and curling, being extremely active in all executive levels at the Steinbach Curling Club for over 20 years. He was especially proud of being part of the first rink Vic Peters took to Provincials in 1982, finishing third in the province, and of being part of the Steinbach Legion team that won the Dominion Legion Championship in 1988. Many happy hours were spent at the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Course, hooking his tee shots into the driving range, and enjoying the company of the gang in the clubhouse. The family would like to thank Dr. Curtis Krahn and the nurses at Bethesda Hospital, and Drs. Nason, Hayakawa, Chowdhury, and the staff at CancerCare and Health Sciences for the wonderful care Ray received. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 13 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St. (at Kroeker) with a reception to follow at the Steinbach Curling Club. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rays memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. We celebrate a life too short, but well lived! Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, (204)326-1351.
