WLODZIMIERZ (WALTER) SPECJAN

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWLODZIMIERZ (WALTER) SPECJAN Peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2002, at Seven Oaks Hospital, Walter Specjan, passed away at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Lukyan Specjan, three sisters and one brother. Walter is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth, son Peter and his wife Darlene and sister Mary in Europe. Walter was born on February 14, 1912 in the Village of Zahortze, Byelerussia close to Minsk. He finished school and started tailoring at the age of 12 (1924). He joined the army in 1939 as an artillery gunner and reached the rank as corporal. Walter spent two and a half years as a POW in the Ukraine. After the war he went to Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Italy, North Africa and eventually ending up in England in 1947. He worked as a tailor in London for four years. Walter met and married Elizabeth in 1948. They came to Canada in 1951 and settled in the North End where he continued his craft. Walter started working for the T. Eaton Co. in 1954 and continued until his retirement at the age of 70. He was a member of the Winnipeg Polish Canadian Legion 246 and a member of the Russian Orthodox Church. Walter enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and junk collecting. He loved the outdoors, gardening where he could grow anything and especially loved Elizabeths apple sauce. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, November 13, at 8:00 p.m.at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Sobor, 643 Manitoba Ave. with Rev. Fr. Anatoly Melnyk officiating. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
