ROBERT FRASER August 7, 1924 - November 8, 2002 Peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre, on November 8, 2002, Robert "Bob" Fraser passed away at the age of 78. Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leona; their son Warde and his wife Estelle; two grandsons, Colin and Nicholas; brother Alex and his family. He was predeceased by his eldest son Dr. Ian Fraser in 1972; brother Ian in 1943; sister-in-law Ina Fraser, and Leonas brother Murray Warde and his wife Phyllis. Robert was born in Winnipeg and served his country during the Second World War as a pilot in the RCAF. After the war he was employed briefly with MTS until he rejoined the RCAF again as a pilot in 1948. He retired with the rank of Major in 1971. Throughout his career, family life was very important to Robert. His extended family included not only his relatives in Winnipeg but also the people who they shared their gypsy life with as they moved across Canada and overseas. The Fraser door was always open, especially to those who were experiencing the loneliness of being away from home for the first time. Family values stressed working to help others who were less fortunate or unable to help themselves. This generosity of spirit continued after Bob retired. Neighbours, new and old, were always invited to visit and call on him for help anytime it was needed. After he was diagnosed with cancer in 1993, he shared his experience with others and helped to establish a cancer support group for people in need in the remote areas of north-western Ontario. In 1976 Bob and Lee moved to Canyon Lake near Vermillion Bay, ON. Together, as always, they built their dream home and enjoyed the advantages of life at the lake with family and friends until his illness forced him to move in September of this year. One of the greatest treasures was time spent sharing "the lake" with his two grandsons as he had with his sons and brothers before them. The family would like to thank Dr. Yvonne Gagnon in Vermilion Bay for his years of care and friendship. They would especially like to thank the people who cared for Bob on 3 East at the Riverview Health Centre for their kindness and compassion during his final days. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). In lieu of flowers, donations in Roberts memory to your CancerCare chapter or your charity of choice will be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
