VERONICA WATTIS On Tuesday, November 12, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer, angels carried Mom to her heavenly home. Mom was surrounded by her loving family and friends who supported and encouraged her throughout her illness. Mom was truly comforted by the abundant love, affection and prayers she received. Three of Moms dearest friends, Bonnie, Gloria and Maddie were a tremendous help with their bedside vigils. Mom was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Stephania Gierek; brother Stanley; and husband Bill. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Mona Jones (Tub), Ian (Jocelyn), Alison (Donna), Billy, Paul (Trina) her six grandchildren, Amanda, Vanessa and Derek Jones, Mighelle and Shannon Wattis, and Tiara Sibbeston-Wattis; husband Al Closen and his son Allan; her brother Roman Gierek; and her many nieces nephews relatives and friends. Mom was born October 18, 1941 in Winnipeg, MB. She spent her childhood in the north end and Fort Rouge. She enjoyed camping and the many summers with her family at Victoria Beach. Mom was an active member of the Fort Rouge Curling Club. Mom lived in Yellowknife for nine years and fondly referred to it as "The North." She loved to be surrounded by people and her zest for life brought smiles to all. Mom was the centre of the family and dedicated herself to each and every one of us. Her love was returned tenfold from children and grandchildren who adored her. Her trademark smile, which could light up a room, as well as her fun-loving and adventurous spirit, will be missed by all. The family would like to thank their many friends for their generosity, support and prayers. Cremation and a private family interment has taken place at Holy Ghost Cemetery. A celebration of our Moms life will be held on Saturday November 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB. Moms strength, courage and love will live in our hearts and guide us always. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
