DONNA LORRAINE McGOWAN (nee FERRIS) On November 13, 2002, Donna McGowan passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bruce McGowan; her three children, Blaine (Julie), Grant (Denyse) and Nancy (Steven) her five grandchildren, Kylie, Kendra and Jared (Calgary), Thomas and Katie (Stonewall) her sisters, Merle (Bill) of Winnipeg, Kathleen (Paul) of Regina; and brothers, Bob (Joan) of Killarney, and Clare (Marge) of Wawanesa. She was predeceased by her mother Rita in 1978 and father Frank in 1993. Donna was born March 22, 1937 in Wawanesa, MB where she grew up and graduated from high school. She studied nursing at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg and became an RN. While in Winnipeg, she met and married Bruce on March 19, 1960. Donna later became involved in the field of child care helping to found Stonewall Childrens Centre and remaining as director of the facility until her retirement in 1992. She cherished the memories of the many children that she cared for and enjoyed getting an update on them as they grew. Donnas love for children was matched only by her passion for gardening. In the summer she spent from sun up to sunset tending her gardens. She enjoyed sharing her flowers with friends and family and even the occasional stranger who would stop to admire the yard. In the winter months Donna spent the days and evenings sewing costumes and outfits for grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Donna was a sincere and caring wife and mother. Her never-ending smile was an inspiration for everyone. She will be sadly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Stonewall Palliative Care Society. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall. Mackenzie Funeral Services in care of arrangements, 433 Main St., 467-2525.
