Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE YOUNG 1901-2002 Myrtle Young died November 9, 2002, at the Boundary Trails Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Tom on November 9, 1991; by her sisters, Doris and Sylvia; and by her brother Alf. She leaves her daughter Donna (Bruce) Harrison of Holland; her sons, David (Audrey) of Hadashville and Jack (Linda) of Kenora; five grandchildren, Heather Baete (Gerald), Beverly Hacault, Jeff Young (Danielle), Jacqueline Starr (Ken), Lisa Young (Mike Griffin) and 11 grandchildren; and one brother Eric of Saskatoon. Emily Myrtle was born in 1901 near Rathwell, MB to recently immigrated parents, Frederic and Jane Burt. She was educated at Benito, MB and earned her teaching certificate at the Manitoba Normal School. She taught at Whitemouth, at Solsgirth, and later at Rothesay School near Birtle. She married Tom Young in 1933, and she and Tom farmed the Young family homestead at Birtle until 1950. At that time they purchased a general store in Holland and served that community until they retired in 1971. After Toms death Myrtle moved to Notre Dame where she lived the last decade of her life in the comfort afforded by the excellent caregivers of the Foyer Notre Dame. Myrtle participated energetically in the affairs of her community. She was an enthusiastic curler and golfer and she enjoyed swimming. She was a faithful member of the United Church at Isabella and later at Holland. She believed strongly in the value of education and encouraged her own family and many other young people to pursue advanced studies. Her major interest, however, was music. She organized and led the choir in the Holland United Church, and coached dozens of school children in vocal and choral music. The annual music festival was always a highlight of her year. The family wishes to take this opportunity to thank the kind, skilful, generous and dedicated staff of The Foyer Notre Dame where Myrtle spent 11 pleasant and healthy years, and the staff of Boundary Trails Hospital where she spent her final few days. Funeral service will be conducted from the Holland United Church, Holland, MB on Monday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date in Brookdale Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Myrtles memory to the Foyer Notre Dame, Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB R0G 1M0 or to the Holland United Church Memorial Fund, Holland, MB R0G 0X0.
