AUGUSTIN KOCEN Peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2002, at the Concordia Hospital, August Kocen passed away at the age of 68 years. August was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph and Marija Kocen as well as his brothers, Rudy, Ivan, Stefan and Franc Kocen, all of Slovenija. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Irma Kocen; daughter Martha and Rick Suche, grandchildren, Steven and Lisa Suche; son Ivan and Deb Kocen, grandchild Jennifer Kocen; daughter Marianna and Doug Chervinski, and grandchildren, Jessica and Rebecca Chervinski, all of Manitoba. He will be also sadly missed by his brother Andrej Kocen; and sisters, Marija Srdinsek, Pepa Hayward and Anica Kocen, all of Slovenija. August was born in Strigova, Slovenija on July 9, 1934 and immigrated to Canada in June of 1957. He settled in Winnipeg where he made his home for the rest of his life. He worked at Purity Flour Mill until 1967, Independent Trucker from 1967 to 1995 and most recently with Fort Garry Industries. Dad was a hard working man who was the happiest when he was lending a helping hand to someone. Whether it was building a fence, planting a garden or helping with the addition to his daughters cottage. Dad was always the first to help and always the last to stop working at the end of the day. His greatest love in life besides his beloved wife Irma, was his five grandchildren. He always looked forward to family gatherings and the time he got to spend with his grandchildren or as he referred to them: PeeWee, Mouse, Jenniser, My Barbie Doll and Becca. His greatest regret was not being able to see all his grandchildren grow up. Viewing will be held between the hours of 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 18 at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated also at the church on Monday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Ron Leger celebrant. Service will terminate at the church. A private family interment to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of August to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
