Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFERRIS (BERT) HERBERT COOK July 26, 1918 - November 13, 2002 It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of Ferris (Bert) Herbert Cook our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle, in his 85th year. Bert passed away at Victoria Hospital on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Margaret; his son James (Jacqueline) his daughter Elizabeth (Douglas) Hopkins; five grandchildren, Robert, Matthew and Breanne Cook and Kayla and Amanda Hopkins. He also leaves to mourn his brother-in-law Hart Bowsfield; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Alex Bloodworth; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. Bert was predeceased by his parents, Olive and Herbert Cook; his sister Eleanor Truscott; and brother-in-law Percy Truscott. Born in Elm Creek, MB he lived most of his life in Winnipeg except for a period of 13 years (1968-81) when he and his family were transferred to Quebec and lived in St. Bruno de Montarville. After graduating from D.M.C.I. he attended grade 12 at Wesley College, then worked in Eatons Mail Order until the start of the Second World War. Bert then joined the civil service and was sent to Ottawa to work for the Department of National Defence. Bert returned to Winnipeg, joined the RCAF in 1941, and was assigned to No. 7 equipment depot. After his discharge in 1945 he attended the University of Manitoba and obtained his B.Sc. Engineering with the class of 1950. Bert was a longtime member of the Wildewood Club, serving as president in 1965. He relinquished his membership in 1968 when transferred to Quebec and rejoined the club in 1981 upon his return to Winnipeg. He loved his golf and curling. Bert was also a devoted and longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Fort Garry serving as president in 1983 and in various other capacities. He will be missed. Cremation has taken place and at his and the familys request no formal service will be held. You have left us for a while We will miss your gentle smile Til we meet again sometime, somewhere We are relieved to know Youre free of cares. A celebration of Berts life will be held at the Wildewood Club, 761 North Dr., on Thursday, November 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for family and friends who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of choice.
