MAUREEN HAMPTON (HUTMACHER) With her family by her side, Maureen Hampton of Lafayette, CO passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2002 after battling renal cell carcinoma (cancer). She was 51. She is survived by her husband of 30 years Robert P. Hampton; two sons, John G. Hampton of Petawawa, ON and Michael Hampton of Boulder; her parents, Anthony and Frances Hutmacher of Winnipeg, MB; brothers, Wayne (Anna) of Red Deer, AB, Cleo (Maureen) of Winnipeg, Carman (Pat) of White Rock, BC, Myron (Maureen) of Winnipeg; sister Myrna Krentz of Bruno, SK; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Allen Krentz. Maureen was born March 8, 1951 in Bruno to Anthony Hutmacher and Frances (Hoffman) Hutmacher. The Hutmacher family moved shortly thereafter to Winnipeg in 1954, where Maureen received her schooling first in Charleswood, then moving on to graduate with the Governor Generals Award upon graduating from Charleswood Collegiate. She attended the University of Winnipeg and received her Bachelor in Commerce with honours in 1972. Maureen married Bob Hampton in Winnipeg in 1972. Both of their sons, Geoff and Michael were born in Winnipeg. The Hampton family called Toronto, Greenville, South Carolina, Boulder, CO and Baltimore, MD home, but it was their beloved Colorado that Maureen and Bob returned to in 1998. Having received her degree in Library Sciences while living in Toronto, Maureen finally got a chance to put that knowledge and her love of books to work at the Lafayette Public Library, in Colorado. Her free time was spent wandering the mountains and trails of Boulder County with Piper, her Jack Russell Terrier sidekick. She volunteered at the library in other capacities including the establishment of a book-mending bee. She was also an active member and president of the local embroidery guild. Maureen was a caring mother, a loving and faithful wife, compassionate daughter and sister, and friend to all lucky enough to know her. As her son Geoff described his mother "Trying to explain my mother in this way is like giving a stranger a small glass of water and asking them to imagine the ocean. She moved amongst us all for her short 50 years and touched us in ways that will leave us reminiscing the rest of our days." She will be sadly missed by all. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in Denver and Boulder County hospitals and also to the staff of the Hospice of Boulder County for their compassionate care for Maureen. A special thanks also goes out to Maureens best friend of almost 40 years Brenda Kolisnyk, who was there at her side during her final days. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Ave., Tuesday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Boulder Valley, 2323 55th St., Boulder, CO, U.S.A., 80301.
