Date of Passing: Nov 12, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY SOLES (nee TURKULA) June 1, 1917 - November 12, 2002 In her 85th year, after a long struggle with failing health, our beloved mother, "Baba", Granny, sister, auntie and friend, peacefully was carried to her Heavenly Home in the arms of her Saviour, The LORD JESUS. Predeceased by her parents, Anastazia and Stefan; husband Walter; infant daughter Doreen; sister Mary; sister-in-law Angela; brother-in-law Bill; nephew Bill Jr. She is survived by her brother Dr. William J. Turkula of Devils Lake, ND; son Jack (Jo-anne) of Vancouver; daughter Donna; and son Lyle (Patricia) of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Linden, Derrick, Craig, Lonny and Lisa; and six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Brandon, Taylor, Ashley, Brendon and Lee; nieces, Denise and Louise; nephew Tom and Bill Juniors family; dear friends, Nettie and Ruby; as well as many former Ashburn Street neighbours and Calvary Place friends. Born and raised in Winnipeg, she enjoyed dancing traditional Ukrainian Folk Dance during adolescence and became an accomplished cook in both Canadian and Ukrainian cuisine, worked many years in sales for the Picardy franchises, and later Giftwares Wholesale until retirement. She enjoyed many friendships during these years and was always ready to ensure her family and friends, as well as the needy, were looked after; and always remembered on special occasions. Dorothy made it her business to see that others were looked after! Her kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness to all, can never be repaid. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Manitoba Home Care workers, staff of Calvary Place Personal Care Home, and the various hospital staff over the years, for the special care afforded Mom during her last years. If theres shopping to be done in Heaven, "We hope youre doing it with a Joyful Heart!" Yes it is more blessed to give than to receive! Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with viewing one hour prior. Interment in the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens; fellowship to follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or a charity of ones choice.
