Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. GLENN ELVIN TREFTLIN Suddenly on November 15, 2002 at St. Josephs Hospital, Hamilton, ON in his 65th year. Loving husband of Luvia (nee Johnston) for 44 years. Dear and beloved father of Kim of Hamilton, Carl and his fiance Jackie of Los Angeles, Jeff and his fiance Amber of Winnipeg, and Chris and his wife Yurika of Memphis. Gramps will be sadly missed by Jenna and Carly of Toronto and Joshua of Winnipeg. Precious son-in-law of Margaret Johnston, brother-in-law of Mary Ellen Johnston, Kathy Silliker, Lynn Ward, Lori Pegg and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Carl Elvin and Florence Treftlin; sisters, Phyllis Johnson, and Lucille Nelson; brothers, Kenneth, Lyle and Stanley; and grandson Bradley Glenn. Glenn was born in Rainy River and was raised in Fort Frances and Hamilton. He was a graduate of Central High School, Queens University, University of Minnesota, and received his doctorate in Adult Education from the University of Toronto. In his younger years he was an Air Cadet and a member of the Hamilton Junior Optimist Club. Later he served his community and was Coordinator of Emergency Measures Organization, President of the Fort Frances Lions Club, Coordinator of the Fort Frances Search and Rescue Organization, President of the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau and President of the Rainy River District Red Cross Association. He loved the north country and felt close ties to the Lake of the Woods, Bergland area, where his parents were settlers in the early 1900s. Glenn loved the outdoors and was an avid CFL fan He loved visiting with friends and family who often sought his wise counsel. He was involved in education all his life and was committed to promoting the education of native peoples throughout Ontario. He held positions as teacher, guidance counsellor and director of education for Indian Affairs, coordinator of Ontario Post Secondary Education for Indian Affairs, director of Confederation College, Fort Frances, coordinator of Distance Education for Contact North. As a consultant in the area of community development he formed close bonds with the Ojibway Akiwese of the Rainy River District. Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, 701 Stone Church Rd. East (at Upper Sherman), Hamilton.
