LAURIE EDWIN ALLEN November 27, 1927 - November 22, 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie on Friday, November 22, 2002 at Riverview Health Centre with family by his side. Laurie is survived by his wife of 16 years, Anne; his children, Pat (Marj), Lorena Macdonald, Jerry (Mona), Barbra (Keith) Murphy, Sheryl Tegelberg, Rob (Liz), Kelly (Diane), and Colleen (Vic) sister Verna (Doug) Watson; brother Keith (Lynn) step-daughters, Donna (Pete) Kroeker, Colleen (Gary) Lang, Bunny (Randy) Anderson, and Janice (Alan) Carriere; 36 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Laurie was predeceased by his first wife Elsie and his sister Rose Frenette. Laurie was born and raised in Eriksdale and married Elsie Johnson in April 1952 at Mulvihill, Manitoba. It was here they raised their family while Laurie worked for CN Rail as a track maintainer, then for Comstock as a lineman, all the while running a cattle farm. Laurie married his second wife Anne Henton in September 1988 and moved to Winnipeg. Laurie had a great love of nature and all creatures great and small. He loved to canoe and has left us a wonderful memoir of his last trip along the entire length of the Assiniboine River. He built hundreds of varied bird houses and left many with people he met on his trip, or at locations along the river that were special to him. Our heartfelt thanks to all the care providers at home, at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, and at Riverview Health Centre in the last six weeks of Lauries life. According to Lauries wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 27, at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or you may erect a bird house or feeder in his memory.
