Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMILY HOMENKO (nee KAZIMIR) July 14, 1927 - November 17, 2002 Peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2002 after a long battle with cancer, Emily Homenko aged 75 years, passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Lawrence (Ronda) and Barry (Brenda) grandchildren, Keith, Allison, Mandy and Justin; great-grandchild Celina; and sister Phyllis Page. She was predeceased by her husband Nick (1983) mother Mary Kazimir; father Nick Kazimir; two brothers, Stanley, Walter; three sisters, Anne Hynes, Frances Shandruk, Elsie Hebert. Emily was a lifelong resident of Arborg, where she married Nick (1948) and together they farmed in Ledwyn and raised two sons. She began working at the Arborg Co-op store in 1957 as a cashier, advanced to the position of accountant/office manager and retired in 1994 after 36 years of employment. Emily had many loves during her active lifetime including playing baseball, curling, dancing, prizes for Halloween costumes, belonging to the church choir, playing her beloved violin, member of church council and cemetery committee, helping with perogy making fundraisers, entertaining at the personal care home with her violin, line dancing at various events, spending evenings playing cards with her friends, weekly coffee group with fellow Co-op retirees, especially her job, coworkers and many good friends. Emily took great pride in her sons and was actively involved with their lives, visiting frequently in St. Andrews, Calgary and Lake of the Woods. She loved deeply her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild and will be sadly missed as part of their families. The family appreciates the care and compassion shown to Emily at the SOGH and Riverview Health Centre during her illness. Thanks also to the many visitors she enjoyed during these last months. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Emilys wishes. Funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church in Arborg, Saturday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m., Fr. D. Kowalski will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church in Arborg. Emilys sense of humour, laughter and huge heart will be greatly missed and yet will carry on in our memories. She will be missed. Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
