THORA MARGARET LIVINGSTONE 1921 - 2002 The family of Thora, Margaret Livingstone, (nee Muir) sadly announce the passing of our mother, grandmother (Nan) and great-grandmother, on Sunday, November 17, 2002 at St. Boniface Hospital. She is survived by daughter, Gayle (Ken) Paige (Winnipeg) and granddaughter Allison; daughter Judy (Tim) Gallagher (California) grandsons, Bill (Tammy) and Jaret Klymchuk; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Billy; daughter Danna (Chris) Olbrecht (Winnipeg), and granddaughter Kacie. Also remembered by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence and Bill Crozier, Newman and Violet Livingstone, and Kay Muir; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Thora, was recently predeceased (August, 2002), by her husband of 59 years, H. Daniel Livingstone, and previously, her parents, Margaret and James Muir; her brother Wilson Muir; in-laws, Maude and George Livingstone; son-in-law Bill Klymchuk, and grandson Jordan Paige. Thora was born, in Montreal, August 23, 1921. Grew up in the Town of Mount Royal - spent her summers in the Laurentians with her family, and drove her own Model A convertible. She was the perfect example of an independent "modern woman" - well before it was fashionable. In 1941, she worked for the RCAF in Montreal, as a secretary. Then, met, became engaged, and married her life partner, Dan, August 28, 1943, in Montreal. 1946 they moved to Winnipeg; bought a house and lived in the same area, (Riverview), where Dad grew up. In time the rest of her family headed west to join them. Mom and Dad resided in Riverview, until in 1991, they purchased their "dream home"! We were fortunate to have Mom at home while being raised. She managed the house and helped everyone with their assignments or projects. She was involved in everyones life - helping with aging parents, maintaining family ties, teaching her grandchildren things, following and lauding everyones accomplishments! Mom had many interests and hobbies. She sewed, knit, did ceramics, enjoyed swimming, camping, music, (especially "Engelbert"), and reading. She enjoyed their Square Dancing Club, the trips to Jamborees, regular dances and events. Mom loved the outdoors, enjoyed her summers at Brereton Lake, and later at St. Malo. They had many wonderful years at both places and established some very special friendships. Mom was an AVID sports fan. She was a Canadians fan.. but loved "her Jets"! They were season ticket holders for years, of the Jets and Bombers. Mom was a "Curler", in regular league play, and external bonspiels. She belonged to St. Johns and Fort Rouge Ladies Curling Clubs; was President of St. Johns Ladies, and The Manitoba Ladies Past President Curling Association. Mom achieved the ultimate "eight-ender" in her curling career! She loved the camaraderie, the companionship and the competition the sport generated, and maintained close ties with many curling friends. Mom was the hub of our family. She helped guide all our lives, never wanting to impose her thoughts or ask anything for herself. She was a private person, and very protective of her family. She was involved with each of us individually, in her own special way. We will cherish our memories, will be comforted by our reminiscences, and we will all miss her forever. "Safe journey, Mom" Special thanks to the Palliative Care staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their understanding, very personal care and treatment of Mom, and our family, during this time. Rev. R. L. Brownlie, will conduct funeral services on Thursday, November 21, at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Childrens Wish Foundation, 350 St. Marys Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2, or, The Palliative Care Unit - St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave. Room D1003, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
