Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYDNEY JOHN HAYWOOD Sydney John Haywood passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 79. He was predeceased by his father Frank in 1981, mother Maude in 1987 and brother Dennis in 1936. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Nancy; daughter Ruth Jansen and husband John, their children, Rob and Michelle; son Ken Haywood and wife Fran, their daughter Caitlin; sister Marion Hall and nieces, Carol Hall and Wendy Benson and family. Syd served in the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War and was stationed on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. He joined the Winnipeg Fire Department in 1946 and retired in 1981 as District Chief. He enjoyed life to the fullest, had a great love of nature and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the last few years on the farm near Gunton with his horses and the wildlife. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Firefighters Historical Society, 56 Maple St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 0Y3 or The Firefighters Burn Fund, Room 303 - 83 Garry St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4J9.
