LORNE WILLIAM LEGGAT Lorne William Leggat, beloved husband of Marion. Following a short illness, Lorne died at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, November 21, 2002. Lorne was born on the farm at Birtle, MB on October 8, 1918. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from May 1941 to September 1945, as an Observer. His service was in Canada, Iceland, South Africa and Scotland. In the fall of 1945, he enrolled in Agriculture and received his B.S.A. in the spring of 1949. Upon graduation, he was employed by The Veterans Land Act at Carman and Brandon. In the spring of 1959, he became the Assistant Manager with the Manitoba Agricultural Credit Corporation in Winnipeg and a year later, was appointed the Manager. In 1968, he received his accreditation in the Appraisal Institute of Canada. From 1974-1981, Lorne was employed by Manitoba Pool Elevators as the Manager of the Brandon Livestock Market. Upon retirement in 1981, he did rural fee appraising. Lorne was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Shrine, the United Church of Canada, the Agricultural Institute of Canada, the Appraisal Institute of Canada and the Y.M.C.A. Lorne is survived by his wife Marion of 56 years; his son Bill, wife Ardith and grandsons, Scott (Terra), Rob (Jennifer) and great-grand-daughter Jessie; daughter Carolyn Schram, husband Fraser and grandchildren, Michelle, Mark and Paul; son John, wife Karen and grandson Cole. He is fondly remembered by brothers, Roy (Joyce) and Frank (Frances) and by his niece Margaret and husband Dale Gies. Lorne was predeceased by his son Jim in November 1994. A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Monday, November 25 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Joan Jarvis of Central United Church officiating.
