MARION FLORENCE HODGSON (GRANT) -
Date of Passing: Oct 08, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARION FLORENCE HODGSON (GRANT) 1916 - 2002 Early Tuesday morning October 8, 2002, with her daughter holding her hand, Marion slipped gently back to sleep. Thanks to the Health Sciences Centre (MED) GH4 staff for very devoted care during her week in the hospital. Greatly missed by Judith, she is lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Mirriam Grant; niece Linda; nephews, Ross and Doug Grant; and Marg Eisler. Her parents, Edith Florence Grant (Daniels) and Percy Willocks Grant; her dear brother William Henry (Bill) Grant; close aunts, Annie and Belle Grant; and grandmothers, Mary Elizabeth Daniels/Deering (Partridge) and Annie Grant (Chrystal) all predeceased her. In sunshine the fall morning October 16, Dr. Rev. Eleanor Geib gave a moving graveside service at Brookside Cemetery. The calls of wild Canada geese circling above, added a final salute to family farewells. Born in Winnipeg, Marion attended Principal Sparling, General Wolfe and DMCI schools, and Success Business College. She paddled a championship war canoe and skated at Winnipeg Roller Rink, married and enjoyed her work at MacLeods Ltd. until retirement January 1982. An active member of Harstone Memorial United Church, she served as Sunday school teacher, in UCW, as elder, in session, and on Presbytery. Lunch and outings with retiree friends, many University of Winnipeg classes and Lions Day Club were fun. Marion liked travelogues and travel, theatre, art galleries, museums, libraries, archives and chasing family history. She savoured letters from old gab club friends, radio music, her daily paper, Quirks and Quarks, Saturday afternoon at the opera, Coronation Street and Washington Week. As walking became more difficult she managed her affairs by phone and enjoyed more television and phone visits. Her very good memory was attributed to "little pitchers have big ears" and "counting family members (genealogy) instead of sheep". A wonderful mom and great friend, she was interesting and interested in all - until she left us. We miss her patient, kind, gentle, loving, independent spirit.
