Ethel is also survived by a large extended family including many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins in Canada, U.S., Europe and Israel. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, Chayim and Sonya Bernstein; her loving husband Alex; her daughter Sonia (Sunny) Louwrier, Brussels; her sister Freda Fisher, Winnipeg; and brother Leon Silver, Liverpool, England. Ethel was born in Praskurov, Podolsk, Russia, and she was orphaned at a very young age and came to Canada as a young girl. She met and married Alex in 1936 and entered into a lifelong partnership, for 57 years. They worked together in the grocery business; first in Selkirk, MB then Leross and Ituna, SK, and finally in Winnipeg where they maintained their business "Bobers Grocery" over 30 years. Ethel was a vibrant, lively, petite woman fiercely independent and deeply devoted to her family. She was committed to her heritage and was an observant Jew. She was a generous individual donating to a variety of charitable causes. She was a strong supporter of Israel. When Ethel and Alex retired they travelled extensively across Canada, U.S.A., Europe and Israel. The family extends our grateful appreciation to her companions for the outstanding care, devotion and caring attention Mamma and Baba got - Ana Albis, Virgie de Jesus, Aida Ballesteros, Vida Venzon, Dory Delmonte, and Andrea Lamirande. Thank you all again, for the respect and exceptional care you gave. Funeral services took place on Friday, November 15 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Rabbi A. Green and Cantor A. Mass officiated. Interment took place at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Hal Bordy, Howard Morry, Jason Palansky, Marvin Samphir, Hart Shapiro, and Jason Tapper. If so desired donations can be made in her memory to The Ethel and Alex Bober Fund at The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba 477-7525 or the charity of your choice. "To those travellers that came, to those that started our legacies and gave us our lives - Thank you. Your heritage succeeds us.
