MURRAY SHURVELL 1918 - 2002 Peacefully on November 23,2002, Murray Shurvell passed away at the Grace Hospital with his family at his side. Murray is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Betty) sons, Dale (Joyce) and their children Alison and Amy, Barry (Colleen) and their children Jennifer and Kaylee, Brent (Kathy) and their children Melissa, Meagan and Kevin. He is also survived by two brothers, Wesley, and Earle. Also two sisters, Mrs. Doreen Whyte, and Mrs. Olive Thorkelson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Annie; and brothers, Terry, Cliff, Art, Bill, and Lloyd. Murray was born and raised in Isabella, MB. This is where he enjoyed playing hockey and where he learned to curl. In 1939 he joined the Seventy First Field Battery Royal Canadian Artillery, and served overseas until he was injured and returned to Canada in 1944. After discharge, Murray joined the Department of Veterans Affairs, and was employed there for 33 years, retiring in 1975 as District Supervisor. In his retirement years Murray and Betty took many trips to Great Britain and Europe, and in 1980 they visited New Zealand and Australia. They also spent winter holidays in San Diego, and had many enjoyable trips to Las Vegas. Murray enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially the Fly Out fishing trips with his three sons. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play baseball, ringette, and soccer. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Flowers are gratefully declined.
