JAMES LESLIE HANNA Peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2002 James Leslie Hanna passed away at the age of 82 years, at Grace General Hospital, Winnipeg. Les was born at Katrime, MB on May 10, 1920. He attended school in Katrime and completed his education after his family moved to Portage la Prairie. He started working for the CPR at the age of 17 years old. In 1941, Les joined the R.C.A.F. as a wireless air gunner (WAG). He was first stationed in Portage la Prairie, moving to Debert, NS and later posted at Patricia Bay, Vancouver Island. Following the completion of the Second World War, Les returned to work for the CPR in Portage la Prairie. He retired in 1980 after 42 years of service. Les married Wilene Erla (nee Effler) on December 18, 1943 and they raised a family of three children, Jim, Erin and Kerry. Les enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an active member of the A.N.A.F. Unit No. 13 in Portage la Prairie. He had many friends whom he enjoyed spending time with. He was delighted to become a grandfather at the age of 79 years, with grandson Daniel being born in 1999 and granddaughter Ashley in 2001. Les is survived by Wilene of Winnipeg, son Jim of Portage la Prairie, daughter Erin (Larry) of Winnipeg and daughter Kerry (Ken) Strong, with beloved grandchildren, Daniel (the big guy) and Ashley (big blue eyes) all of Winnipeg. Les is also survived by his brother Clarence (Charlotte) of London, ON with niece Beverly, nephews Mark and James and their families, and brother Irvine of Portage la Prairie. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on 3 North at Grace Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Less memory may be made to the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, NICU Fund, 409 Tache Ave., St. Boniface, MB R2H 2A6. A celebration of Les life will take place on Friday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 56 Royal Rd. S., Portage la Prairie, with Rev. Julie Baker officiating. Gone Dear Dad, gone forever How we miss your smiling face But you left us to remember None on earth can take your place. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Les by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements. Phone 857-4021.
