DIANE JANE MEEK (nee CARSWELL) November 18, 1940 November 27, 2002 Peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Diane passed away at the age of 62. Painfully left to mourn is her husband Joe, of 39 years; son Jeff (Rhea), and very special granddaughters, Jessica and Sydney; daughter Stacey; mother Florence Carswell; sisters, Linda (Dick) and Cindy; niece Keely (Will) and mother-in-law Audrey Meek. Diane is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. She was predeceased by her father Walter Carswell in 1984. Diane was born on November 18, 1940, in Winnipeg. She grew up in Domain, MB, where she attended school. At Avonlea United Church she acquired a love for singing. At the age of 17, she moved to Winnipeg to attend Grade 12 at Kelvin High School. Following graduation she enrolled in the LPN program at Misericordia Hospital. After a short time nursing and with travel as her passage, Diane moved to Toronto to work as a flight attendant with Trans Canada Airlines. During this time, Diane met her husband Joe while he was finishing his DVM at Guelph University. Manitoba called Diane back, and she and Joe resided in Arborg where they started a veterinary practice. In 1969, they purchased a home in Winnipeg where they continued to reside until the time of her death. Diane is best known as a woman with an infectious smile and a contagious laugh. She lit up a room the moment she entered. She loved life and could make the smallest of activities into an adventure for everyone to enjoy. She had a personality that made everyone around her feel like they were her closest friends. Everywhere Diane went she would easily strike up a conversation and showed sincere interest in people she hardly knew. Diane enjoyed hosting many family events in her home. She was considered the matriarch of her extended family and many looked up to her. She was blessed with a kind and generous heart, one which many of us envy to have. She was all about style and class. She was truly a very intelligent and elegant woman. For the last 20 years Diane worked at York Insurance in Charleswood Mall. She took great pride in her job, her customers, and the staff she considered her good friends. Diane supported local theatre by attending MTC for over 15 years. She was a huge Yankees fan - especially Derek Jeter. You could also find her catching the weekly Nascar race on TV. Diane loved to spend summers at her cottage in Falcon Lake. She loved to putter around the cabin. Often she was on the deck entertaining family and friends that had dropped by to catch up. The corner of Birch and Green will never be the same. She also treasured her annual winter vacations to Florida with her daughter Stacey. One of the greatest achievements in her lifetime was her commitment to her family. She was continuously selfless by providing a home where Joe, Jeff and Stacey always came first. She was an integral part of our lives. We will forever be permanently scarred by her passing. She adored her two granddaughters who she referred to as "the girls," and we will ensure that Nanas legacy lives on in their hearts. We wish to express sincere thanks to Shawne West, Thanh Ha, staff at CancerCare St. Boniface, and staff at Palliative Care St. Boniface. A special thank you to Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk for allowing us to continue to believe that there is always hope. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. A private family interment will take place at Holy Angel Mausoleum. Pallbearers are Richard Bland, Sandra Harvey, Marianne Litster, Clayton Manness, Laverne Manness and Winston Smith. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Palliative Care Endowment Fund through the St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2J 9Z9. The pain that we feel and the ache in our heart; will only increase now that we are apart. How do we go on when the lights been turned out; by remembering the love shared, without a doubt. How lucky we are that we have no regrets; we thought our family was as good as it gets. You were our support, and always knew what to do; please give us the strength to live each day without you. Your beauty will never fade. Your memory will never die. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I was a good friend of Joe Meek and Vernon Willis. We grew up in Cannington. Joe’s mom lived across the street from my grandmother where I grew up. She was a fine lady. I remember when Joe met his wife. We all knew each other.Soon after Joe graduated and they married they moved to Manitoba. Almost 60 years ago. I haven’t seen him since. I often think about im and wonder if he’s well. I hope he’s well. - Posted by: Bob Valentine (Friend) on: Jul 31, 2022
