EUGENE CHACKOWSKY Peacefully, on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, Eugene "Chick" Chackowsky passed away at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. Eugene is survived and sadly missed by Helen, his loving wife of 50 years; by his three sons, Nick, Leonard, and Peter and his wife Patricia and their children, Rylan, Nicole, Taylor and Cameron; his sister Nancy Johnson, and many other family members and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Annie and Nick Chachkowsky, who passed away in 1994 and 1997. Eugene was born June 7, 1923 in the town of Borke, Poland, and came to Canada with his mother in 1928, reuniting with his father who had immigrated two years earlier. As a young man, he fought in the Second World War with the Canadian Armed Forces as a field radio signalman. His interest in wireless communications and electronics was to remain with him for life - he was initially employed with Camguard Electronics and, from 1964 until his retirement in 1988, with Advance Electronics. During retirement, he developed a passion for amateur radio and was a member of the Winnipeg Senior Citizens Radio Club (call sign VE4 AFD). He also volunteered in the community delivering Meals On Wheels for several years. Eugene was a devoted and hard working husband, father, and didi. "Oogie and Hashka" were married in 1952 in Winnipeg, and lived for two years in Vancouver before returning to the sunny prairies to live permanently in Winnipeg. He enjoyed nothing more than spending weekends and summers with the family at the cottage at Husavic, and regularly visiting with the Ilczuk family at Betula Lake, blueberry picking and climbing Harrys mountain. The family wishes to thank the staff of Concordia Hospital, Concordia Oncology Clinic, W.R.H.A. Home Care Nursing Unit, and the palliative care team at Riverview Health Centre for their compassion and excellence. Cremation has taken place. At Eugenes request there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. If friends so wish, donations in Eugenes memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Riverview Health Centre, or to the charity of their choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
