THOMAS EARLE JONES 1911 - 2002 Peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2002, Thomas passed away at the age of 91. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Thomas received his education at Luxton and Provencher Schools. After graduation, he perfected and excelled in the meat business. Tom joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942, serving with the distinction as Petty Officer in the Medial Corps. In 1946, he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department, serving 15 years. Tom was an avid gardener and that was evident with the abundance of beautiful vines, flowers, plants and veggies. A man with artistic flair, he traded in the fire hose for a paint brush and started his own business "T.E. Painting and Decorating". Much in demand, he continued to work well into his late seventies. Tom was a man of many talents. In his prime, he played hockey with Provencher, St. Alphonsus and Hudson Bay teams. An avid sportsman, he delighted in fishing, curling and later golf. He could be seen out at Crescent Drive Golf Course with his best friend and brother-in-law Uncle John, several times a week for the challenge. Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Eileen (Logan), daughters, Gail (Peter) Dyck and Arlene (Bill) and precious grandson William (B.J.) Chambers; brother-in-law John Logan; sisters-in-law, Ina Logan, Yvonne Robb and Millie Rae; sister Stella of British Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Thomas adored his grandson "Billy" and they shared many enjoyable hours together. B.J. loved his PaPa... Thomas was predeceased by his daughter Dorthy Yvonne, parents, Harry and Rachel; sisters, Hazel and Delva; brothers, Harry, Trevor and Lloyd; and sister and brother-in-law, Ruthie and Garvie Rae. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and support and Home Care for the outstanding care they extended to our father over the past four years. A memorial service will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. on Wednesday, December 4 at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Roy from Holy Cross Parish officiating.
