HEATHER JOYCE MARGARET JOSEPH (CASSEL)
Date of Passing: Nov 18, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHEATHER JOYCE MARGARET JOSEPH (nee CASSEL) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Heather Joseph, on November 18, 2002, at her home in Winnipeg. Heather was the youngest of three children born in Lethbridge, AB, to Frank and Beatrice Cassel. Heathers brothers were Donald and Phil. They were the eighth generation of Cassels in North America. Heathers ancestors, Johannes and Arnold Cassel, arrived in the New World on March 7, 1692, with William Penn. She grew up in Warner, AB, and attended the Universities of Alberta, and Manitoba, obtaining a diploma and a degree in physiotherapy. As a physiotherapist she reached out to heal others and became a true friend to the many whose lives she touched. She practiced her profession for over 30 years in Saskatoon, Winnipeg, in Zambia, and in Malawi, Africa. In Winnipeg she worked as a physiotherapist at the Deer Lodge Hospital, The Health Sciences Centre, and the Winnipeg Clinic and the University Hospital in Saskatoon. In Africa, she lectured in physiotherapy at the University of Zambia and practiced as head of physiotherapy at a hospital in Malawi. Inspired by a live performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff she attended in her youth, Heather studied piano and attained a diploma as a piano solo performer from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. As a pianist, she performed on radio and television, gave the gift of music to her many students, and actively furthered the appreciation of classical music through her volunteer work in the communities in which she lived. She married Gaston Joseph in Saskatoon in 1960 and had three sons and a daughter, Cyril, David, Carlyle, and Angela. Also left to mourn are her two daughters-in-law, Felicia and Shelly; and four grandchildren, Kai, Nicole, Spencer and Tyrone. She was a dear and loving wife and mother to our family and will be remembered for her generous, caring, and selfless nature, pure heart, and faith unfeigned. Her many artistic talents and innate sense of humour brought colour and joy to the lives of those around her. These gifts survived her and exist in her grandchildren today. Heathers life was rich with the love of her family, friends, and many experiences. She travelled throughout the world and we often reminisced about the many wonderful and funny things that happened along the way. Heather, we will remember you with love and miss you very much. May you rest in peace and may God bless you. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the many who provided us with advice and support in the final years of Heathers life and attended the private service on November 25. Our family has decided not to have a second memorial service. We invite you to contact our home with expressions of condolences. In lieu of flowers, please give to a worthy charity of your choice.
