WILBERT BLUE On December 1, 2002, Wilbert Blue passed away peacefully in the Eriksdale Personal Care Home. Wilbert was born in 1914 at Scotch Bay. He worked at home on the farm, farming and fishing until joining the army in 1941. Prior to this he was a very athletic person who loved baseball and usually did the umpiring. He also enjoyed calling square dances. After joining the army, with his regiment the Royal Canadian Artillery, he spent the rest of his tour in Britain and other countries in Europe. On discharge he took a carpentry course and worked on construction. Wilbert bought a farm from May and Jim Havard in Clydebank where he harvested his grain and raised cattle. He later built his home in Winnipeg and finally retired in Sandy Hook, where he built his last home. Having had a triple bypass heart surgery in 1986 he moved to Eriksdale to the Friendly Villa then to the Personal Care Home. He leaves to mourn two sisters, May Havard of Eriksdale and Winnie Thompson (Charles) of Winnipeg; three brothers, Stanley of Winnipeg, Arnold (Dorothy) of Eriksdale and Robert (Phyllis) of Eriksdale; one brother-in-law Bob Phillips of Toronto; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Malcolm Blue; two brothers, Malcolm and Sandy; two sisters, Margaret and Effie; one sister-in-law Freida Blue; and one brother-in-law Jim Havard. Funeral service will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, December 6, with visitation one-half hour prior to the service time. Interment and reception will follow. Should friends so desire, please make donations in memory of Wilbert to the Eriksdale Guild, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0.
