Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID PROCTOR February 11, 1920 - November 28, 2002 It is with sadness that we announce the death of our father and grandfather, David Proctor. In poor health for some time, Dave quietly passed from this life on Thursday, November 28, 2002 with his longtime partner Joyce and his daughters at his side. Dave was born the seventh of ten children to John Duncan Proctor and Annie Rogerson on February 11, 1920 on the family farm at Grahamdale, MB. By 1930, the family had moved to St. Vital where Dave attended local schools, graduating from Glenlawn Collegiate. While still a boy, Dave learned to play the bagpipes from accomplished players in the neighbourhood and from 1934 to 1939 he was a piper with the Queens Own Cameron Highlander Cadet battalion. In 1939 he signed on with the 1st Battalion of the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, serving as a member of the Regimental Pipe Band. Going overseas almost immediately, he was stationed in England and Scotland before landing at Normandy in 1944. Discharged in July of 1945, Dave returned home to fulfil his longstanding dream of attending university. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1947 he was accepted by the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. After articling with E. H. Crawford, he was admitted to the bar in May of 1950. Dave joined the firm of Pitblado, Hoskin and Co. in 1953, became a partner in 1959 and was with them until his retirement in 1990. Dave continued to play the pipes and for many years he was a member of the Khartum Shrine Pipe Band until arthritis forced him to give up playing in his 70s. Dave was happiest, however, than when he was at the lake - most recently with Joyce at Victoria Beach where he spoiled the chipmunks with bags of peanuts and indulged his cats (Mr. Cat, Jenny, Little Guy and Target), of whom he was inordinately fond. Dave will be missed by his partner Joyce Laidler; and his daughters, Linda (Dave) White and Jacqueline (Frank) Ingrilli of Winnipeg; as well as Joyces children, Bob (Dianne) Laidler and Barb (Bob) Sokalski. He will be missed also by his kids, David, Bern, Stef, Kathryn, Rob, Joey, Alicia, and Claudia - all of whom he cared for more than they may ever know. Dave was predeceased by his brothers and one sister, Alec, Jim, Mary Elizabeth (Bud), Jock, Raymond, Ronnie and Les (Dusty) and his wife Alice (Hamilton). He is survived by his elder sisters, Margaret Hancock of Edmonton, and Jess (Tommy) Thompson of Winnipeg. The family would like to thank Dr. Poon and the 3rd floor nursing staff of Grace Hospital for their kindness and consideration during Daves last illness. In compliance with the wishes of the deceased, cremation has already taken place and the family memorial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Daves name to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
