FRANK EDWARD CATON NEWTON At peace and with steadfast dignity, Frank Newton passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at the Grace Hospital. He was born January 13, 1914 in Drayton, ON and moved to Neelin, MB in 1924 where he completed his education. Frank served overseas during the Second World War with the No. 3 C.C.S. Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 86, for 59 consecutive years. He and Ida were married in 1946 and lived in Neelin where he had the hardware store. They moved to Cartwright, MB in 1956 where Frank worked in Newtons store with his cousin Ralph. He also did furnace repair work for many years. Ill health prompted a change so Frank went back to school, obtained his social welfare diploma, and worked for the Childrens Aid Society in Winnipeg facilitating adoptions from 1968 until he retired in 1979. Known to all as a gentle man, Frank enjoyed his garden, the cottage, reading, his workshop, "fixing things" and was the eternal optimist when he went fishing. Frank lived quietly, guided by faith and honour. His easy good humour, kindliness and honesty were inspiring. Frank is survived by his beloved wife Ida of 56 years; son Ross; daughters, Janice (John) Markowsky and Joann; grandchildren, Tara and Graham Newton, Stacy, Tyler, and Matthew Markowsky; sister-in-law Leonora Bolton; nephew Dr. James Newton and family; nieces and nephews by marriage. Predeceased by his parents; brother Harold (Lorna) sister Evelyn; brothers-in-law, Barney Bolton (Esther), Bill Bolton (Lottie). Interment in Neelin Cemetery followed by funeral service 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4 at Christ Church Cartwright, Canon John Caird officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to a charity of their choice. Grateful thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital, and Home Care workers Matthew and Jacquie.
