PERCIVAL (PERC) EDWARD WAKE Percival (Perc) Edward Wake passed away peacefully during the evening of November 30, 2002, at the Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, MB. He was predeceased by his wife Christina (nee Elsworth) in June 2002; and also by four brothers, Cecil, Albert, Stanley, and Lawrence; and one sister Hilda Brown. His brother Wilfred of Dryden, ON and numerous nephews and nieces survive him. Perc was born on October 17, 1916, the sixth child of John (Jack) William Wake and Ruth (nee Sones) Wake. Both parents had emigrated from England and settled eventually in Gregg, MB where Perc was born. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1922 but Ruth and Jack unfortunately passed away prematurely in 1926 and 1927 leaving seven children; the oldest, Cecil and Hilda raised their younger brothers. Life was not easy for the young Wake family. Perc and two of his brothers, Wilfred and Lawrence, served with the Canadian Army in Europe throughout the Second World War from 1939 to 1945. Perc was a member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and a longtime member of the Canadian Legion. He seldom reminisced publicly about his wartime experiences but he often talked of the trip he and Chris made to France to commemorate the D-Day Invasion. Perc and Chris were married December 26, 1953. They lived in Winnipeg, with the exception of a period in the mid to late 1950s when they lived in London, England while Perc worked with the Government of Canada. Perc retired in 1981 after many years with the Canadian Department of Manpower and Immigration. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, bowling and especially golf. Often playing several days a week, he enjoyed the game and company of his good friends, Bill Gibson and others. He was pleased to have been able to score a hole-in-one on three separate occasions. The family wishes to thank the staff and doctors of Tuxedo Villa for their kind care and comfort during the last months while Perc was a resident. And, to Mr. David McFetridge of Winnipeg, thank you for a lifetime of support and friendship. Cremation having taken place, a service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., after which interment will take place in the Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
