Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORRAINE MARGARET TOTH (nee HORN) May 26, 1940 - November 29, 2002 It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Lorraine Toth (affectionately known as LT, Mrs. T, Auntie Lorraine, Mom and Hon) at Seven Oaks Hospital after a brief and sudden illness. Her loving husband Bob; sons, Dean and Derek; and daughter-in-law Shelley will forever remember her as a vibrant star that brightened their lives. Lorraine was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland to George and Pearl Horn and moved to Winnipeg when she was eight years old. She met her husband Bob when they worked at Swift Canadian. They began curling together (actually against each other) at the old Heather Curling Club and three months later they were married. Bob and Lorraine were together for 43 years. She inherited her love of hockey from her father, who played professionally in Scotland. She passed this on to her sons, spending many nights watching them play hockey, as well as being on the executive, at the North Kildonan Community Club. She later joined the Board of Directors of the River East Royal Knights where she was involved for many years. Lorraine has been actively involved in the curling community for about 40 years. Over the years, she was a member of the Thistle, Rossmere, Elmwood (where she helped organize the first Business Girls league), Heather (where she served a term as president) and East St. Paul curling clubs. Her early curling achievements included an 8-ender, as well as a MLCA championship on the first Elmwood Business Girls team to win this event. She served on the MLCA Council for nine years. Within that term, she was twice chair of the provincial junior championships as well as chair of the provincial mixed and senior womens championships. Some of her other involvements included many years with the Scott Tournament of Hearts, Womans Super League, an Executive for the Canadian Masters Championship, a counsellor at numerous summer curling camps, and president and Honorary Life Member of the MLCA. This year, she was involved as the President of the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame, Co-Chair of the 2002 JVC Womens Classic and Media Chair of the 2003 Ford World Curling Championships. Lorraine and Bob spent their summers at Gull Lake where Auntie Lorraine devoted endless hours to the kids of all ages. She had a huge extended family that will miss her very much. Above all else, Lorraine treasured her own two sons, Dean and Derek, who were always her first priority. They filled her life with joy and love, and she will always be their guardian angel. The family would like to thank the staff of Misericordia Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, and Seven Oaks Hospital for their kindness and understanding. We want to celebrate her life as one of giving and caring for those who were fortunate enough to know her or be part of her family. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
