DONAT DENIS JOSEPH COUTU
Date of Passing: Dec 02, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONAT DENIS JOSEPH COUTU It is with great sadness that the family announces his sudden passing on Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Concordia Hospital. Dads memory will be cherished by his loving wife Denise (nee Boyer) daughters, Paula, Deanne; and son Derrick; his two precious grandsons, Josh and Justin; and his godson Daniel Coutu. He will also be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters, Alvina (Edgar) Perreault, Bernice (Ed Caouette) Blais, Charles Coutu (and friend Rosalyn), Elaine (Nelson) St. Goddard, Freda (Roland) Ducharme, Gerald (Collette) Coutu, Hazel (Lloyd Chartrand) Coutu, Isabel Vaughn; mother-in-law Stella Boyer, brothers and sisters-in-law, Shirley (Edgar) Bruce, Sylvia Boyer, Darlene (Edward) Woytowich, Marcel Boyer, John (Cathy) Boyer, Ken Boyer, Beverly Ann (Allan) Jolicoeur; many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends especially Big Joe Lavallee and Jules Desjarlais and his little buddy Min Min. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Benedict and Lillian Coutu; father-in-law Etienne Boyer; and sister-in-law Pat Johnston. Big Don (Gros Doon) was raised in St. Laurent but lived in Alberta for a while doing construction work. He returned to make St. Laurent and Winnipeg his home. He loved the great outdoors and always kept himself busy, especially picking wildflowers for his wife that he cherished, and collecting wood for some of his woodworking projects like making sling shots for his grandson, or creating picture frames for his family photos. Dad was very proud of his Metis heritage and was often seen wearing his raccoon hat and fringed buckskin jacket. Anyone who met Gros Doon would quickly find out about his outgoing personality and his passion for teasing. He was also very quick witted and had a lot of crazy comebacks. He would have you smiling and laughing in no time, especially if you were fortunate to hear one of his many long tales. Don, you are very much loved by all whos lives you have touched. With heavy hearts we will cherish the memories we made together. You will be greatly missed and be forever remembered as a great man. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Jacques St. Goddard, Jason Chartrand, Laurent Ducharme, Daniel Coutu, Daryll Allard and Shane Jolicoeur. Funeral mass to be held at the St. Laurent Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, December 7, at 11:00 a.m. with prayers connecting at 10:30 a.m. The service will conclude at the church and cremation will follow. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Society for Manitobans with Disabilities. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
