HELGA ELIZABETH BALDWINSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and Amma Helga, of Riverton, MB on Sunday, December 1, 2002. Helga was pre-deceased by her parents, Thomas and Magnusina Jonasson; her husband Baldwin (1965) her son John (1975) sisters; Thelma, Florence, Adalheidur; brother Thomas and granddaughter Donna Lazaridis. She is survived by her two daughters, Margery (Harold) Bjornson and Clarice (Al) Nelson; daughter-in-law Nancy (Ron) Henderson; grandchildren, Robert, James, Ryan Bjornson; Eileen Elliott; Gary, Sandra Nelson; Barry, Darren, Tasha Henderson; ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Jonina Britton and Grace Gudmundson. Helga was born at Engimyri in Riverton on October 9, 1916, the fourth of seven children born to Thomas and Magnusina. In 1935, Helga married Baldwin Baldwinson and together they raised a family and farmed at Fagriskogar, east of Riverton, until Baldwins passing. In the late 1960s and through the 1970s, Helga worked as a cook in the construction industry. Her culinary expertise was greatly appreciated by the many men she cooked for throughout Manitoba. Prior to Helgas retirement she also served as a home care worker, helping others to enjoy a quality of life in their home. Helga touched the lives of the many people she met over the years. She was a proud, determined woman, who was quick with a joke and always willing to share her opinion on any subject, or her perspective on politics. With the help and wonderful care of her guardian angel grandson, Ryan Bjornson and her home care worker, Donna Jerome, Helga was able to remain in her home and maintain her independence right up to her passing. For that we know she was truly thankful. Ryans dedication to his Amma created a very special bond between the two of them. Funeral services have already been held.
