Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL ROYCE BROWNSTONE Peacefully, after a courageous seven year struggle with cancer, on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at the St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of 69 years. Sam is survived by his wife Evelyn Numerow and his daughters Mara Barsky (Ron) and their children Rebecca and Sara, Andrea Slusky (Alan) and their children Lauren, Noah and Matthew, and Karen Cormier. Sam was also cherished by Evelyns three sons and their families, Leonard and his children Kevin and Allison, David (Susan) and their children Logan and Ben and Michael. Sam also leaves his brothers-in-law Rudy Terhoch and Jerry Nep, sisters-in-law Sylvia Bronstein and Gail Nep, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by his first wife Arlene (Posner), parents William and Lily Bronstein, brothers Harry, Louie, Charles, Buddy, Issy, and Al and sisters Anne, Eva, and Ethel. Sam was born September 27, 1933 in Winnipeg, MB. Sam grew up in Winnipegs North End. He was married to Arlene for over 32 years and raised his three daughters together with Arlene. Sam started his business career early, when he began his long and successful career as a salesman with Eastern and then Western Smallwares, eventually becoming President and General Manager of Western. Sam retired at age 49. He was truly a self-made man, beginning by selling toys from a Western Smallwares truck to Winnipeg Safeway stores and stores in small town Manitoba. Sam loved his work, and took it very seriously, providing for his family was his number one priority. After his retirement, Sam liked nothing more than to relax at Winnipeg Beach surrounded by family and friends. In 1993 Sam married Evelyn. She was a tremendous source of support and love to him and his family. The two of them enjoyed summers at Winnipeg Beach and also trips to Mexico and other destinations with their many friends. Sam was a man whose heart was always in the right place, and loved telling stores to all. Sams advice, words of wisdom, and presence will truly be missed by all who knew him. Many thanks to Drs. B. Schacter and R. Wong, Dr. Wongs nurse Cathy, the staff and nurses at Cancer Care at the St. Boniface for their care and support over the many years and the nurses and staff of 5A at St. Boniface who made his last two weeks as comfortable and pain free as possible. Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 8, at the Etz Chayim Synagogue. Pallbearers were Nathan Dana, Albert Gertenstein, Gerry Mallin, Leonard Numerow, Aubrey Rogerville and Frank Zipursky. Honourary Pallbearers were Carey Boroditsky, Amos Chwaiewsky, Jerry Nep, Michael Numerow, David Numerow and Irvin Slusky. Donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba in Sams memory. Shiva will be held at 903-141 Wellington Crescent.
