VERONICA (VERNA) BARBARA LINKEWICH (nee GEREGA) Veronica (Verna) Linkewich, aged 90, died peacefully in her sleep at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with her family by her side on December 4, 2002. Born near Shoal Lake, she lived on a farm near Kelloe during her school years. In 1936 she moved to Winnipeg where she met Nick Linkewich and they were married in 1940. They later moved to Kenora, then to Schreiber and Terrace Bay where they operated various businesses. Verna managed the family business until it was sold in 1973. In 1985 she moved to Thunder Bay where she enjoyed gardening, her cat "Holmes", and especially her family and grandchildren. Verna is survived by her son Ed and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Jason, Penny, Aimee and Beth; sister Mary Maskiw; niece Shirley Twerdun; nephews, Jim (Helen) Maskiw, Jerry Maskiew, and Don (Jan) Maskiw and their families; and other relatives. She was predeceased by her father Adalbert Gerega who died in a barn fire in 1914, stepfather John Kondrat 1968, husband Nick 1973, mother Annie Kondrat 1973, and brother John Kondrat 1985. Verna was very generous with her family and supported many charities. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Network Northwest - Pain & Symptom Management Team, 1159 Alloy Dr., Thunder Bay, ON P7B 6M8, or the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. on Tuesday, December 10 at 1:00 p.m.
