FREDERICK (FRED) GARFIELD JOHNSTON Peacefully, on December 7, 2002 in his 76th year, Fred passed away with his family at his side at the St. Boniface Hospital. Predeceased by his brother Lincoln. He is survived by his older brother Melville and his loving wife of 53 years, Phoebe. Also left to cherish his memory are his two devoted sons, Lorne (Marilyn) and Larry (Beatrice) and his grandchildren, Jesse, Michael, Nicole and Kevin; numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Dad was born on May 4, 1926 in Carey, MB. The family later moved to Arnoud, where Dad attended school. In his early years, he was employed with Watkins and then spent 37 years with Air Canada. Dad retired in 1986 and spent many wonderful days reading and rocking in his beloved rocking chair, and he could often be found rocking to his favourite tunes in his new "addition" at the Knights Villa. Dad always enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and always took interest in all of their endeavours. Should friends so desire, please make donations in memory of Garfield, to the Manitoba, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of ones choice. The family would also like to thank Dr. John Peachell and the entire Nursing Staff on the 2nd floor of St. Boniface, with special thanks to Colleen. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (Southeast of the Mint). A private family interment will take place at a later date at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD 982-7550
