Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR MATHESON (nee LOEB) July 26, 1916 - December 7, 2002 On December 7, 2002, after a long period of declining health Mom peacefully passed away at Beacon Hill Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond September 7, 1993. Mom will be always loved and remembered by her children, Joyce (Lawrence) Cormack, Connie (Bob) Aitken and Kenneth; her grandchildren, Rob, Andie (Jim) Jay and Katharine (Jason) her great-grandchildren, Alexa and Jamieson; her brothers, Peter (Genie), Walter (Kay) and Alfie (Lyn) her sister Helen (Julius) Endler; her sisters-in-law, Eleanor, Lillian, Elsie and Betty Matheson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Fred, Ernie and Richard; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara (Dave) Lackman and Irmengard (Leslie) James. Eleanor was born at Lydiatt, MB, the eldest of ten children of Peter and Elisabeth Loeb. She attended the one room Corall School and was a great help to her mother in helping to raise her younger brothers and sisters. In November 1940 she married Raymond Matheson and they had a happy life together in a marriage that lasted some 53 years. They began their life together on the farm and moved to East Kildonan in the late 1940s where they spent the rest of their lives and raised their family. Mom was a homemaker whose life centred around her husband, her children, her home and garden. She loved to cook, bake, garden, sew, knit, crochet and do needlework. For many years she was actively involved with the U.C.W at King Memorial Church where she developed many friendships. Her working life consisted of working at Eatons Grill Room products which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was also very supportive of her husband during his involvement with the union, CCF and NDP. She treasured the memories of family holidays tenting at West Hawk Lake and enjoyed even more the holidays spent in the trailer. Mom and Dad were able to do some travelling and they particularly enjoyed car trips with their friends to Florida for union conventions and trips to Mesa, Calgary and London, ON, to visit relatives. She cherished and celebrated the arrival of her grandchildren Rob, Andie, Jay and Katharine and they loved "Grammer Slammer" dearly and will sorely miss her. Thankfully, they were all able to be home this summer to see the Grandma that they loved so much. Mom had a family who loved and respected her and our lives will always be full of her strong presence. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge taking such good care of Mother during the last year. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with a reception to follow. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or to the charity of ones choice.
