ELISE BAKUS On December 8, 2002, at the age of 89, Elise Bakus (nee Lemke) was called home to her Heavenly Father. Elise was born on May 10, 1913 in Konopnitze, District Lublin, Poland. She married Reinhold Bakus on October 3, 1935. Together they farmed in Shonbruck, West Prussia, Germany until 1945. After the Second World War the family was separated and reunited in 1947 in West Germany. The family immigrated to Canada in 1954 and has resided in Winnipeg, MB since then. Elise was predeceased by her husband, Reinhold in 1992, and one granddaughter, Monika Spletzer in 1969. Remaining to cherish her life are one son, Kurt and wife Anneliese; and three daughters, Ingrid Bredin and husband Don, Christel Spletzer and husband Rubin and Ursel Boucher and husband Jim; 11 grand-children and 17 great-grandchildren. At an early age, mother made a personal decision to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. Her dedication to the Christian faith lasted her lifetime. She was a faithful member of McDermot Avenue Baptist Church until her passing. She particularly enjoyed singing in the choir in the earlier years and was active in the "Schwestern Verein." In her senior years she enjoyed the many activities of the Baptist Seniors Group. A funeral service will be held at McDermot Avenue Baptist Church on Friday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Meadowood Manor Chapel Expansion Fund, in care of McDermot Avenue Baptist Church, 821 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0T8. Viewing for family and friends will be Thursday, December 12, 7:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
