CAROLINE CHANAS (nee KONOPACKI) Peacefully, on Tuesday, December 10, 2002, Caroline Chanas, aged 91 years, formerly of East Selkirk, passed away at Red River Place Nursing Home, Selkirk, MB. She is survived by her sons, Paul of East Selkirk, and Mike (Sharon) of Winnipeg; daughter-in-law Mary (Bert) Harluck of Selkirk, son-in-law Bob (Edna) Mundt of East Selkirk; grandchildren, Paul (Laurie) Mundt of Victoria, Carolyn Grieve of Calgary, Paul Chanas Jr. of Calgary, Shauna (Ryan) McConnell and Jamie of East Selkirk, Karen Chanas of East Selkirk, Donna (Brian Gerluck) Chanas of Winnipeg, Tanya (Ken) Pankiewich of Winnipeg, Van Chanas of Winnipeg and one great-grandson, Bryce Pankiewich of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband, Dmytro (1969), daughter Katherine Mundt (1987), son John Chanas (1992), daughter-in-law Adele Chanas (1991) and grandson-in-law Glenn Grieve (2002). Caroline was born in Poland, on September 1, 1911 and came to Canada with her sister Katherine in 1920. She met and married Dmytro and they farmed most of their lives in East Selkirk. Grandma enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in many activities: Paul and Carolyn - Piping and Drumming, Tanya - Ballet, Van - Acting, Paul, Shauna, Donna and Karen - Ukrainian Dancing. Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 12, at 7:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 13, at 10:30 a.m. at The Blesssed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in East Selkirk, MB with Fr. Harry Oliynek officiating. Interment will follow in Parish Cemetery, East Selkirk. The family wishes to thank the staff of Red River Place for their care of Grandma.
