JOHN HOFER It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of John Hofer Sr., of West St. Paul, surrounded by his loving family, at Riverview Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, on Sunday, December 8, 2002. John was born on January 12, 1926, at Elie, MB, and was of sound mind until he died with dignity and in the arms of his youngest daughter Becki. Dad farmed for many years in the Interlake Region and later moved to Winnipeg with his family and worked as a finishing carpenter till his retirement at 71 years of age. He developed pulmonary fibrosis approximately seven years ago and struggled for the last seven months as his condition rapidly deteriorated. He practiced Christian principles first and foremost and instilled the same exemplary values in his children and all those that he touched. John was predeceased by his father Zacharias (1963) his mother Maria (1996) and his brothers and sisters, Maria (October 30 to November 14, 1916), Zacharias (October 26, 1917, to January 7, 1918), Jacob (1919 to 1991), Zacharias (1921 to 1992). Dad will be deeply missed and is survived by his loving wife Anne of 51 years; his brothers and sisters, Ben (Esther) Hofer, Mary (Jonathan) Hofer, Joe (Rachel) Hofer, Rebecca (Ed - deceased) Hofer, David (Sarah) Hofer, Elie and Mike; his children, Tom (Evelyn), Harry (Anna), Joanna (Mike) Luxton, Jan (Tim) Scheuer, Liz (John) Hofer-Thomson, Edna (Rick) Hofer, John (Miriam) Jr., Lena (Barry) Ford, Becki (Steve) Howanyk, Edward (Juanita) 16 grandchildren; and many dear relatives and friends. John was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather and friend. He loved life and loved and cherished his family dearly. We could always count on Dad to be "there" for all of us. We love you Dad and will miss you very much!! May you rest in peace. The family wishes to thank all those who have shown their love and support during the past six months as he struggled with the disease. Our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Seven Oaks Hospital and Riverview Health Centre, Dr. MacMillan and Dr. Taraska. Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 12 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road.
