In the mid 60s he sold his drug store and worked at Crescentwood Pharmacy on Corydon Avenue. In 1969 his wife Violet passed away and shortly after that Harold decided to move to the west coast to be closer to his family. In Vancouver he worked at Collingwood Drugs on Kingsway and spent a lot of time with his grandchildren, Bruce and Cheryl in their early years. In later years Harold was known as "Dukes Grandpa" for his regular walks up Baker Drive to Mundy Park with the familys Labrador Retriever. Harold was predeceased by his wife Estelle Violet Garnett in 1969; and by his sisters, Iris Smith, Enid Rankin, Dorothy Sutherland and Dulce Harper. He is survived by his son Douglas (Sharon) of Coquitlam, BC; grandchildren, Bruce (Lee-Ann) and Cheryl; and great-grandchildren, Sophia and William. His surviving sisters are Mrs. Geraldine (Campbell) Savage of Miami and Mrs. Deane Menzies of Vernon, BC. For the last seven years Harold was a resident of Parkwood Manor in Coquitlam where he enjoyed an excellent seniors lifestyle. The family would like to extend its gratitude to all of the staff and management as well as many of the residents of Parkwood who helped look after Harold, especially during the last few months of his time there. Also special thanks to the staff at Royal Columbian for the gentle professional care and particularly to his general practitioner Dr. Bernhard Toews for his compassion. If desired, donations in Harolds name may be made to the CNIB or to the charity of your choice. No flowers please. Interment will be in Miami.
