GEORGE NESTOR ODOWICHUK Unexpectedly on December 8, 2002, in Abbottsford, BC, George Odowichuk, aged 68, passed away while visiting family. George is survived by his wife Marion; son Doug (Sue) daughter Colette (Blair) grandchildren, Gabriel, Isaac, Hannah, Avery, Julian; and siblings, Mary Wolovets, Kay McArdle, Elsie Mendres and Gordon Odowichuk. He was predeceased by his parents John and Dora; his brothers, Bill and Ed; and his daughter Sharon. George was born in Insinger, SK, on September 14, 1934. He spent his childhood on the family farm. He went to Teachers College in Moose Jaw after high school. George and Marion married in 1956 and they spent their first year together in Fort QuAppelle, SK, where he taught school. Then they moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family of three children while George worked and studied to gain his CMA designation. George began working for Air Canada in 1960. He worked his way up through the ranks and upon his retirement in 1985 was Director of Revenue Accounting in Winnipeg. In his retirement years, George spent time with family and friends, and enjoyed gardening and canning his fiery salsa and garlicky dills. But the highlights of those years were times spent with his five grandchildren. Nothing gave him more pleasure than holding one or two on his lap or playing with them. He was a wonderful grandfather! George volunteered with Revenue Canada to provide income tax services for seniors for many years, and in 1999 he volunteered at the Winnipeg Pan Am Games. George was a kind, sensitive man who went out of his way to help those he loved. He could always be counted on to come out and help. Life was not easy for him and his personal struggles were many, but his gift to each of us was immeasurable and we are all better human beings for having known him. Georges life will be celebrated at a service on Monday, December 16 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., and will be officiated by Rev. Father Wasyliw. The service will be followed by the interment and a reception for family and friends. Arrangements in care of: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
