Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANNES MARTINUS (MARTIN) WYENBERG March 9, 1916 - December 10, 2002 Peacefully, on December 10, 2002, Martin Wyenberg went home to be with his Lord, at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanne and their five sons, Keith (Maja) of Calgary, AB, Don (Molly) of Houston, TX, Gerry (Sabina), Tim (Penny) and Eric (Hilda), 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, one brother Peter of Anglemont, BC. He is predeceased by brothers, Jack and Walter and an infant brother in The Netherlands. Martin was born in Winnipeg on March 9, 1916, to parents, Jacobus and Johanna Wyenberg, who had immigrated to Canada from The Netherlands in 1912 and 1914. He was a lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Church in Winnipeg, where he served as elder, deacon, organist, choir leader and as an active chorister until health limitations prevented his participation. He was a founding member of the Greater Winnipeg Society for Christian Education (Calvin Christian School), where he received a lifetime honorary membership in 1989. He served two and a half years in the Royal Canadian Armed Services (Volunteer Corp) during the Second World War, attaining the rank of Corporal. He worked at Burns Meats for 40 years, retiring in 1981. After retirement, Martin was very active in volunteer work, including Middlechurch Home, Meals on Wheels and Childrens Hospital Book Market. One of his great loves was singing and he enjoyed singing in several choirs during his lifetime. He held a special place in the hearts of many of the children of his church where he was known as "Peppermint Grandpa." A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. Flowers respectfully declined, donations may be made to Calvin Christian School Supplementary Fund, 245 Sutton Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2G 0T1 or Childrens Hospital Foundation, CE501 - 840 Sherbrook, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1.
