Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARTH ROSS TAYLOR Peacefully, on Dec-ember 11, 2002, Garth passed away at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 80 years. Following a stroke at Victoria Beach in July 2002, he succumbed to his illness after a long and courageous battle. Family was always important to Garth. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris, in August 2002. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Lynn (Jerry) Butler; son Brian (Kathy) Taylor; and grandchildren, Rob, Jenny and Catherine Butler, and Michael and Lindsay Taylor. Garth was born in Oak Lake, MB in 1922 and raised on the family farm. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Brandon University where he joined the college band as a tenor saxophone player. Garth carried this love for big band music throughout his life. Garth began his career as a field reporter in Kingston, ON. Here he met and married Doris and they moved to Winnipeg. He joined the Free Press where he worked as a reporter and news editor. Garth worked for CBC and gained national recognition for much of his work. Positions held included reporter, producer, director and journalist for programs such as Country Canada, Points West and Country Calendar. Garth loved golf, reading newspapers and spending time at the family cottage at Victoria Beach. Golf was his game; Victoria Beach was his haven. Dad - although you are absent now, you will never be forgotten. In accordance with Garths wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Thomsons Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway, on Saturday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. A private interment will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Garths memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
