ALBERT STEPHEN GRAHAM It is with deep sadness that we have said good-bye to our so loved father, grandfather and best friend. Albert Graham died Friday evening December 6, 2002 in Kingston in the warmth and care of his family. Previously widowed by Violet, he will always be present in the thoughts and hearts of his children, Rick (Jan), Gloria (Gary), Geoff (Wendy) grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Adam, Christopher, Laura, Stephanie, Kourtney, Nicole, Reid; partner Marj and family; and friends. Bert was born and raised in Winnipeg. He was a Second World War veteran; upon his return he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department. This began a long and distinguished career as a Firefighter. His years as Captain of Station No. 1 had many special memories. He continued to climb the ladder of success retiring, after 42 years, in the position of Assistant Deputy Chief. He felt honoured to have succeeded in a career he truly loved and enjoyed. He was extremely proud to include himself as one of the special type of men that call themselves Firefighters. After Bert married his first love Violet, the years were busy. Their family grew to include three children. Bert established Dakota Builders Construction Company; working on his days off building 63 homes in Winnipeg. He and Violet built the family retreat at Jessica Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park in 1954. This continues to be "home away from home" for the family. Many memories were created at the cottage; fun days of work, water sports, games, fishing, and hunting; and who could forget those deep "philosophical" discussions well into the night in front of the fire. Bert loved to travel, becoming a regular snowbird. In later years spending time in Arizona where many Firefighters often winter. Family and friends will remember "Easy Bert" as a person who loved to work hard and play hard. His family was always his first priority. He had a positive influence on people he met. He was generous, thoughtful and an all around "good guy". Friendships were so meaningful and significant in his life. Thank you to all the special people who touched both Berts and our lives. There will be a Firefighters Memorial service on Friday, December 20 at 11:00 a.m., at Leatherdale Gardener Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Family requests donations to the Firefighters Burn Fund, 202-666 St. James St, Winnipeg, MB, R3G 3J6, or the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, in lieu of flowers.
