HELEN MAGIS (nee MUSHINSKI) On the morning of Tuesday, December 10, 2002, Helen Magis met with the Lord. She knew she had a long, hard road ahead of her on earth. After having a kidney and cancerous tumour removal, she endured a stroke that left her paralyzed on her left side. She struggled to regain her health. With the help of the staff on the second floor E.T.U. and Occupational Therapy units of the Dauphin General Hospital, she began her journey to better physical health. She was wheelchair bound but just last week she took a few steps with the aid of a walker. But she was so tired. She knew her congested and enlarged heart was being overworked. The Lord came calling. He offered her a place of Peace, a place of Joy, a place where she could walk and be free from pain. She answered the Lords call. Mom was born in 1925 in the Loon Lake District to Paul and Mary Mushinski. There she grew up on the farm with her sisters, Olga, Jean, Anne, Emily and brother Mike. In 1941, Mom married Dad, Morris Magis and they had three girls, Nadia, Diane and Beverley. They lived in Winnipeg until 1985 when they moved to Dauphin. Dad died in 1988. Mom remained in Dauphin. Not one to sit still Mom took on the challenge of single life. At the age of 64, she got her drivers licence. For many years she cooked for the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Dauphin, helped out at the Seniors Centre with bingo and meals, and was always ready to help others. Mom was blessed with the wonderful companionship of John Michaluk and his family. Mom was also blessed with many family members and friends in Winnipeg, Dauphin and other parts of Canada. Her children, daughter Nadia and husband Ray Labay, grandson Curtis and fiance Sandi; daughter Diane and husband Brian Klisko, grandchildren, Krista, Matthew, Becky and Sarah will miss Baba deeply. Sister-in-law Gail Mushinski of Oshawa will miss their weekly calls and all those special times they shared. Sister Anne Posmituck in McCreary will miss her also. Prayers will be said on Monday, December 16, 7:00 p.m. at Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Home in Dauphin. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment to follow at Ethelbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Baba and Gigi - you are together once more! PEACE and LOVE VICHNAYA PAMYAT
