GEORGE THOMAS SIMMONS JR. February 8, 1962 - December 10, 2002 Suddenly, in Calgary, AB, George Simmons Jr., beloved husband of Debbie and father of Lindsey and Krista, passed away. Besides his loving wife and children, he will be sadly missed by his mother Isabel; three sisters, Dianne Smela, Fern Smeaton and Georgina (Peter) Anderson; sister-in-law Karen Simmons; half brother Earl Simmons; Debbies sons, Jason and Jeremy Colpitts; nieces and nephews, Christopher and Michael Smela, Nicole Simmons, Emily and Sarah Anderson; mother and father-in-law Hilda and Ervin Rossnagel and extended family. George was predeceased by his father George Sr. in June 2002, his brother Hugh in August 1996, his brother-in-law Ken Smela in September 2002 and infant nephew Andrew Smela in February 1992. George was born and educated in Winnipeg and went straight from Grade 12 to work at Canadian Pacific Railway in 1980, where he has been employed until now. He started in the Diesel Shop in Winnipeg, and went on to be a brakeman. George took his locomotive engineer training with his dad, then worked as a coordinator at Winnipeg Yard. In summer of 1988 he went into the management side of CPR, starting as a Trainmaster in Brandon, which required a transfer from Winnipeg. From Brandon he went to Kenora where he worked in this capacity before being promoted after two years to the position of Manager of Operations. In this position George was transferred to Medicine Hat, AB, Chapleau, ON, Thunder Bay, ON, and then in July 2002, George took his most recent position as Assistant Director, Network Management Centre in Calgary. George loved life and lived it to the fullest, influencing those around him with his dynamic personality and constant energy. He was a loving husband, father, brother and son and was a true friend to many. The family has been overwhelmed by the support given to us by CP Rail, family and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with funeral service following on Monday, December 16 at 9:30 a.m., also at the Chapel with Pastor Norm Bartel officiating. Interment will follow in Clanwilliam Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined; if friends so desire, donations may be made in Georges memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Childrens Hospital Foundation.
