ALICE ELLEN ANN GOVENLOCK (nee NORTH)
Born: Jun 03, 1910
Date of Passing: Dec 13, 2002
Offer Condolences or MemoryCHANGE IN SERVICE TIME ALICE ELLEN ANN GOVENLOCK (nee NORTH) Peacefully, on December 13, 2002, Alice Govenlock passed away at Golden West Centennial Lodge at the age of 92. Alice was predeceased by her husband Warren; her brothers, John, Bert and Carl; her sister Eva; and her granddaughter Catherine. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Wes (Gail) and her daughter Donna (John) her grandchildren, Wesley, Karen, Grant, Kimberley and Jennifer; and her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Courtney, Conner, Kyle, Brody, Taylor, Ryan and Samantha. Her favourite times were spent with her family. Alice was born June 3, 1910, in her parents farmhouse in Franklin, MB. By necessity, she quit school at a young age to be able to look after her ailing mother and more or less run their household. She met Warren and they married in 1937 and moved to Winnipeg in 1940. Warren took a job with Air Canada and Alice entered the work force at the Assiniboine Hotel, working her way up to become banquet manager. She then changed directions and became involved in the hair dressing industry. Ever ambitious, she quickly became an instructor at Scientific Marvel School of Hairstyling where she was proud to graduate many students. Alice then went on to become manager at the Hollywood Hair Studio. It was at that time that Warren became ill and Alice found herself at home again, caring for a loved one. Alices biggest love was her family. It seemed that she never really took any time for herself. Her home was always open for Sunday suppers and she was always there to help whenever the need arose. Her family has carried on with the Sunday suppers and we will certainly miss Mom at the table. She really set an example for the rest of the family. Our family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge. They are very special and caring people. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 500 - 55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1L8. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Tuesday, December 17, at 12:30 p.m. The service will be followed by interment and a reception for family and friends. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
