MARION CUTHBERT COLES (nee MILLER) Peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2002, with her family by her side, Marion Coles passed away at the age of 84 years. Marion was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1977. Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Dennis and Ron (Barbara) grandchildren, Robert and Melanie; brothers, Frank (Muriel) and Donald (Gertie) sisters-in-law, Joyce Coles, Lorna Wheaton and Barbara Hall; brothers-in-law, Bill Coles and Colin Campbell; and her many nieces and nephews. Marion was born on October 2, 1918 in Glasgow, Scotland, immigrating to Canada around the age of two. The Miller family settled in the Weston area of Winnipeg, where Marion remained until her passing. Marion worked in Eatons Grocery Department prior to her marriage in 1942. The next 36 years were spent at her husbands side, raising a family and building a life together. By the time Marion and Charlie had reached their mid-50s, thrift and hard work had paid off. Early retirement, a comfortable home, travel and a cottage at West Hawk Lake, which they built together with their sons, was theirs to enjoy. Unfortunately a year later, Charlie passed away, leaving Marion to soldier on for another 25 years. During those years, the cottage was her summer residence from May to September. She enjoyed the water and swam regularly until the last few years. Her love of the Whiteshell was matched by her love for her cats and her concern for animals in general. She was a generous benefactor to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Your work on earth is done Mom. Go in peace. We love you and will miss you. Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. with Rev. Bruce Faurschou officiating. In lieu of flowers we request that donations be made in our mothers name to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or the charity of your choice.
