SHIRLEY SAWCHUK (nee TOCHER) Peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2002, at St. Boniface Hospital after a lengthy illness, Shirley passed away at the age of 73 years. She was born September 17, 1929, at Walpole, SK. She is lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Gloria and David Smith, Glenda Bewsky and Dawna and Kevin Baker; five darling and adored grandchildren, Stacey, Ashley, Chad, Kathryn and Kirsty. Shirley was the oldest of seven children: sister Iris (Walter) Magura; brothers, Glen (Katie), Grant (Judy), Colin, Barry (Eleanor) and Eldon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law. Melody Kurtz was a special and most loved friend of Shirleys. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1989; her father Gordon in 1979; her mother Marjorie in 1999; nephews, Gordon, 1971, and Barry Tocher, 1974. Shirley was a devoted wife to Peter for 38 years. She was a genuine mother, grandmother, friend and a wonderful homemaker and was of tireless energy. Her home was open to anyone. Shirley worked in the Eatons Shoe Department for a number of years as a part-time sales clerk. Her hobbies included keeping a meticulous flower garden, making those famous buckwheat cabbage rolls, passion for baseball and playing the ponies, as well as baking special cakes for her grandchildren. REST IN PEACE, MOM. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 East at Green Acres Lane.
