ARTHUR C. ROBINSON On Sunday, December 15, 2002 at the Grace Hospital, Art Robinson passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Art is lovingly remembered by his wife Doreen and children, Linda, Rob (Elvia) and Sandra. Also sadly missing Art are grandchildren, Scott, Christina, Crystal, Vanessa, Matthew, and Tyler; great-granddaughter Jordan; and sister-in-law Madeleine Dudley. His sister Gwen predeceased Art, and left to cherish his memory are her daughters, Karen and Joy and their families. Born in Brandon, MB on January 22, 1924, Art grew up in St. Vital and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate. Arts subsequent studies in architecture at the University of Manitoba were cut short when he enlisted in the Air Force in 1943, attaining the rank of Pilot Officer. In 1946 Art and Doreen were married, and spent three blissful years together as newlyweds in British Columbia before settling down in the Wolseley area. Art began his career in the jewelry industry with McGeachie and Holdsworth where he spent 27 years, during which time he was active in the Manitoba Jewelers Association and served as President. In 1977 Art initiated a career change where he enjoyed travelling as a sales representative until his retirement in 1987. Arts life was rich with interests and friends. From his high school days of canoeing and swimming on the Red to hunting and fishing with his Air Force buddies at "The Lodge". Art enjoyed enduring friendships with people from all chapters of his life. Art maintained his Air Force, Whytewold, jewelry industry, and neighbourhood friendships throughout the years, and always looked forward to his periodic reunions with "the gang" from St. Vital. His community spirit was demonstrated through his involvement with Meals on Wheels, the Drum and Bugle Corps, and many years of volunteering at Wolseley School. Art will be remembered for his trademark red convertibles and creative temperament. He expressed himself best in many artistic pursuits - painting, poetry, and playing the piano and glockenspiel. His unique sense of humour and sharp wit was legendary, as was his love of working with his hands, always seeming to have a project on the go in the basement or at the cottage. Apart from his family, Arts life was his cottage in Whytewold, where he spent his happiest days. He took great pride in building his getaway, enjoying many relaxing summers with Doreen, family, and friends. Art was a familiar figure in his neighbourhood, always out trimming the hedge, sitting on his deck or chatting with passersby. Art faced his battle with Alzheimers with characteristic independence and strength, maintaining his sense of humour throughout. Doreen and her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Deer Lodge staff at T3 for their many years of compassion and care, and making Arts life as comfortable as possible. Thank you also to all the friends who visited Art through his stay at Deer Lodge. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 19 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arts memory can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2
