ANNE SHERMAN July 20, 1921 - December 16, 2002 With her family by her side, our beloved wife and mother Anne Sherman (Salamandyk) of Holy Family Nursing Home and formerly of Stuartburn, MB died peacefully in her sleep. Left to cherish her memory, husband of 59 years Alex; her children, MaryAnn (John) Prociuk, Peter (Gail) and Norm (Jan) her grandchildren, who meant everything to her, Darryl (Lynne), Michele, Janine, Larissa, and Stephen; as well as great-grandchildren, Samantha and Matthew, whom she was so excited to have in her life; brother Alex (Florence) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Sam; sisters, Mary, Doris (Kohut) brother Norman; and a brother in infancy. Mom grew up in Stuartburn where she also met and married her husband Alex on October 23, 1943. They lived in Winnipeg for a few short years and then returned to Stuartburn where they raised their family and made their home for the next 48 years. Anne was a long time active member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Stuartburn, the Vita District Health Guild, and since 1965, a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League of Rosa, MB. Anne enjoyed many activities, singing in the church choir, gardening, sewing, writing and hairdressing for friends and neighbors in the community. She was also a caregiver to her mother, mother-in-law, father-in-law as well as other elderly neighbors who required assistance, always finding the time. Although never having had the opportunity of a lengthy, formal education, Anne had a creative writing talent which she displayed in her many years as the Stuartburn area correspondent for the Carillon News. Her weekly columns and special interest stories provided a unique link with their roots for former area residents throughout Canada and the USA. Their home was always open to their many family and friends from near and far whose company was so much enjoyed whether visiting or playing cards. She was very active in the community until she suffered a stroke 14 years ago and became a resident at the Vita Personal Care Home where she made many close friends. The last nine years she and her husband have both been residents of Holy Family Nursing Home. Thank you to the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home and especially the nurses on the St. Marys Ward for enhancing the quality of her life with their compassion and caring. She participated in many activities with the residents at Holy Family along with contributing writing to the homes paper, writing to her many friends, or keeping in touch by phone. After suffering another stroke two years ago, which also took her eyesight, she still continued to reminisce about all the family and friends that meant so much. We, her family, thank all who have kept in touch whether by visiting, mail, or prayers for her health. Prayer services will be held at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, on Friday, December 20 at 7:30 p.m. with Father Ihor Royik officiating. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, December 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Stuartburn, MB with interment in the parish cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations in Annes name may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home. Peaceful now in the arms of her Lord. VICHNAYA PAM YAT Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel of Steinbach (204)326-1351.
